altBerye Tesfa Kiros

30-year-old, Berye Tesfa “Hope” Kiros has been pregnant three times. Her first pregnancy resulted in a stillbirth, her second was normal but her third left her in labor for three days before being taken to the Mekelle Hospital where the baby died and she developed a fistula. Her husband divorced her and her family still discriminates against her and believes that her injury was due to God’s curse. Berye now lives alone with her daughter and depends on farming. Her income- generating skill will be learning sheeping to sustain her family. She decided to join Healing Hands of Joy because she wanted a better life for her daughter and to educate her community about the true causes of fistula.
